What is Myofascial Release?
Myofascial Release is a stretching technique which is used to treat a variety of soft tissues problems. The fascia is a thin tissue which covers all the structures in the body (muscles, individual muscle fibres and organs) and which creates a supportive "web" throughout the body. If the body receives any form of trauma it causes damage to the soft tissue and this includes the fascia.
By encouraging the release of the uneven fascia the natural healing process can be aided, pain is reduced and movement improves.
The process is not massage but involves a stretching procedure whereby a light stretch is applied to the area required and, once the tissue begins to relax, the stretch is increased until the area has been completely released.
Very often I will use myofascial techniques within a massage treatment simply because that will be the most effective way of dealing with a particular issue. However, should you be interseted, I can also carry out treatments which work purely with myofascial release techniques.
